At the Roger Williams Housing Complex garbage bins overflow, while waste piles up yard after yard. Tenants like Phyllis Smiley have had it with other people’s trash. “I ain’t got to do their part, they can do their own part. I got one bedroom and a husband and my grandchildren. They could be eating candy they throw it right there, if they don’t I’ll break their neck,”Said Phyllis Smiley.
Bob Haskins with Keep Mobile Beautiful says Smiley is not alone. He hopes cleaning up the complex will encourage others to be mindful of their mess. “We want that pride to spread throughout these neighborhoods so that they become beautiful neighborhoods, they’ll be safer neighborhoods and be much more pleasant to live in,”Said Haskins.
Organizers with Keep Mobile Beautiful cleaned up Roger Williams just 3 months ago. (Read the full post about ‘Litter Bugs Beware’…)
